During the last couple of years, the Indian manufacturing sector has underperformed the GDP. In the Northern Region, this sector contributed around 12.9 per cent in the regional GDP. At the regional level, the sector has grown at a CAGR of 7.3 per cent during 2004-05 – 2013-14, which is nearly at par with the growth of India’s manufacturing sector at 7.4 per cent.
Understanding the importance of the manufacturing sector, the government has launched the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The focus of this initiative is to facilitate investments and build world class manufacturing infrastructure.
Under this context, the CII publication on Make in India: Focus North sets the context for discussion on ‘Make in India’ with special focus on the Northern Region. The report also discusses various CII suggestions for improving the ease of doing business in the country.
The theme publication was released at the Annual Regional Meeting of the CII Northern Region held on 19 March, 2015 at New Delhi.
