This is the seventh annual edition of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Grant Thornton India meets Britain report highlights the significant contribution Indian companies made to the UK economy over the last year. The 2020 report, analyses data from almost 850 UK-incorporated limited companies owned or controlled by Indian interests and provides a complete view of the landscape of Indian investment into the UK.
The Web launch of the India Meets Britain tracker 2020 took place on 7th May 2020 in the presence of Lord Gerry Grimstone, UK Minister of Investment, HE Mrs Ruchi Ghanashyam, Former High Commissioner of India to UK, Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII and Mr Anuj Chande, Partner, GT UK. Attended by over 340 guests and dignitaries including Lord Jitesh Gadhia, Baroness Sandip Verma, Baroness Usha Prashar, Lord Dolar Popat, Lord Loomba, Mr Jim Bligh, Chair, CII UK India Business Forum, Lakshmi Kaul, Head & Representative – UK, CII, Mr Chandru Iyer, Head of Business Development, South Asia Group, GT UK, Indian industry, key UK regional representatives and stakeholders and media, welcomed the report launch as a poignant reminder of the huge contribution of Indian industry in the UK.
Key findings include:
Total number of Indian companies in the UK: 842 in 2020 and 842 in 2019
These companies have a total turnover of £41.2 billion, compared to £48 billion in 2019*
Indian companies employ 110,793 employees (increased from 104,783 in 2019)
Together they paid almost £462 million in corporation tax compared with £684 million in 2019 and £360 million in 2018
