The challenges related to the development of National Highways in Kerala are worsening day by day and this is having an adverse impact on the economy of the state. Against this background, CII–CDM Smith has brought out an exclusive publication on ‘Widening of National Highways in Kerala: Opportunities and Challenges’. At present the vehicle-to-population ratio in Kerala is 1:6, whereas the national average is 1:25. It is estimated that the traffic volume in Kerala will exceed capacity levels by nearly three times in 10 years and about six times in 20 years. With this joint CII-CDM Smith report, CII intends to sensitize important stakeholders on the importance of having better connectivity through standard National Highways in the State. The report was released during the CII Kerala Annual Day & Brand Summit 2014 held on 4 March 2014 at Kochi, Kerala.
