CII, in association with their Knowledge Partner, Urban Mass Transit Company Limited released a publication titled ‘Mass Urban Transportation’ against the backdrop of the ‘International Conference on Mass Urban Transportation: Developing Integrated Urban Transport Systems in Indian Cities’ organized by CII on 10 October, 2014 at New Delhi.
The urban mass transport situation in the country, at large, is at the developing stage. Even the metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore are struggling to find optimal solutions to address their mobility needs. Deficiencies in the Indian urban transport system are examined. The elements of integration which include the physical, technological and institutional components are also dealt with. Each city needs to be analyzed with its peculiarities so as to adapt the system for each city. The need of the hour is to plan and integrate urban mass transportation systems in the country so as to avail maximum benefits from the system.
