The green movement is gaining strength and sustainability has emerged as the new mantra. Globally, industry is keen to ensure future businesses are sustainable and secure. Industries and organizations are increasingly following the ‘Green’ route through the concept of sustainable chemistry by adopting bio-chemicals, bio-plastics, compostable packaging materials, etc. Green chemicals are the preferred choice. Green chemicals belonging to both 1st generation and 2nd generation are being extensively explored and are being considered as the future potential energy resource. The green chemistry practices have been practiced in India, for instance using alcohol form molasses as feedstock to manufacture chemicals leading to positives such as lower carbon emission, less dependence of fossil, etc. Therefore, to sustain this effort a strengthened encouragement has to be given to industrial growth which is based on sustainable chemistry practices and solutions, reinforced by government policies. Aspiring to promote the concept of green chemicals, CII- ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development organized a one day Conclave on Sustainable Chemistry: Green Solutions for All.
