This publication captures the different initiatives taken by the CII (Eastern Region) in the area of Skill Development. It was released during the Skill Conclave 2014 organised by CII on 20 June, 2014 at Kolkata.
Collaborating with the State Governments and the private sector, CII has set up Skill Hubs and Skill Gurukuls in remote districts of India, which impart training in various skills.
In terms of Skill Gurukuls, the Eastern Region is very vibrant. In Eastern Region, eight CII - PARFI Skill Gurukuls are operating - in Gumla, Jamshedpur, Bundu and Chaibasa in Jharkhand, Purnea in Bihar, Jajpur in Odisha, Purulia in West Bengal and Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh. Around 3500 candidates have been trained till date in these Skill Gurukuls.
The CII District Office and Skill Coordination Centre at Kendrapara, Odisha is working as a Skill Hub and has trained 200 candidates to date. Other skill interventions have also been undertaken in Coochbehar, West Medinipur, Darjeeling, Barasat, Patna, Rishra and West Champaran.
50 ITIs have been adopted in the Eastern Region by CII member companies with a strategic intent to upgrade them as ‘Centres of Excellence’.
