India
continues to be an emerging market in the global medical technologies space.
However India has not reached its true potential, both in terms of the market
opportunity as well as in building a hub for innovation and manufacturing. To
build up a roadmap for India to reach its full potential in medical technology
CII along with The Boston Consulting Group assembled a think tank to brainstorm
and determine the key levers required to be able to unlock the true potential
of India.
The CII-BCG
report titled “Medical Technology: Vision 2025” released at the 8th Medical Technology Conference organised
on 28 August, 2015 at New Delhi, focuses on what it would take to make this
vision a reality and has structured the discussion in five areas—Manufacturing,
Innovation, Regulation, Adverse environment and Skill building. The report dwells
upon a roadmap and informs that India holds a $50 billion opportunity by 2025
in the medical technology sector.
The
report also discusses on steps needed to be taken by the government to
streamline regulations and thereby enabling innovation and making doing
business viable. Based on inputs from the CII Medical Technology Division
Members, the report puts forward a 10 point agenda of what needs to come
together in the next year to give India a prominent space in the global medical
technology market in the years to come.
