WorldSkills India is an effort to promulgate skills in the society and motivate the youth to pursue vocational
education. It is a step towards broad-basing the country’s growth through skill development. WorldSkills
India will be the official body representing India at the WSI with the CII and the Government playing key
roles in its functioning. The key objective of WorldSkills India shall be to promote vocational skills within the
country. The organization will have a well defined structure with a Board of Directors and a National office
supported by a permanent Secretariat. Also, it will have different committees to look after technical and
strategic issues, run by competent nominated members.
WorldSkills India will organize chapters at various levels to provide exposure to youth through competitions,
seminars, trainings etc. It will primarily be funded by The Directorate General of Employment and Training
(DGET) under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Additional support would come from corporate
sponsorships, both in cash and kind. During the initial years, 80% of the funds are estimated to come
through Government support and about 15% from private sponsors. Additional funds can be raised through
activities like flea markets, art shows, school entry fees etc.
WorldSkills India is an effort towards spreading awareness, raising skill standards and creating a pool
of skilled manpower to meet the employment requirement across diverse sectors of the economy. The
organization will play a key role in enhancing growth and employment in the Indian economy.
