Considering the role of standards in international trade and protection of domestic consumers from sub-standard imports, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry initiated the Standards Conclave in 2014 to educate the stakeholders and generate industry wide awareness on standards and conformity assessment. The two day conference organized on 16-17 April, 2014 brought together policy makers, industry leaders, academicians and researchers on a common platform to discuss the challenges, opportunities and issues related to standards and technical regulation faced by India in the changing scenario of global trade. An ‘outcome’ report that documents the recommendations from the Standards Conclave 2014 is detailed. The ‘outcome’ have been broadly divided among legislative reform, upgradation of the regulatory framework, awareness generation, preparedness and response, voluntary initiative, funding and capacity building.
