CII organised the Regional
Annual MGO Industry Co-Operation Meeting (RAMICON) West on 12th
April 2017 in Pune. This meet was organised as a part of the Indian Army,
MGO branch’s initiative of connecting and collaborating with the industry in
different parts of the country. With huge requirements for maintenance and
sustainability of the existing equipment, the Indian Army has already stepped
up its efforts towards indigenisation.
Lt Gen Ravi Thodge (Retd),
Consultant to the Ministry of Defence & Former MGO in his Keynote address
informed the participants that the industry needs to work closely with the
Indian Army to understand its quality standards. “There is a need for creating
mutual win-win situation with mutual understanding”, he added. Lt Gen R R
Nimbhorkar, Master General Ordnance, India Army during his address informed the
members that the Ministry of Defence is looking for higher engagements with the
Indian industry. He also released “The Olive Pages” – A compilation of the
critical materials that are required for the logistics & maintenance
support of the vast array of Indian army equipment.
Earlier Brig P Nataraja,
Commandant, Central Armoured Fighting Vehicle Depot, Kirkee flagged off the
session by Welcome address where he gave a brief about the defence business and
urged the participants to make use of this session to understand the business
opportunities and the procedures to get enrolled as a defence vendor.
Representing the industry, Col R S Bhatia (Retd), President & CEO -
Defence & Aerospace, Bharat Forge Limited in his special address spoke
about the changes the Industry has undergone in the last 2 decades.
Complementing the efforts of the Indian Army’s approach on reaching out to the
industry, he apprised the industry about the huge business opportunities that
are available through the revenue procurements. Mr Vernon Noronha, Vice
President – Defence Business, Tata Motors Limited who also spoke on the
industry perspective called for long term commitments by the Indian Army that
would encourage more companies to work with the defence. “Pune should become
the hub for Land Systems for the Indian Army” he added. Mr Nitin Chalke,
Chairman CII Pune Zone and Managing Director- India, Eaton delivered the vote
of thanks.
