Smt. Irani encouraged industry members to not be limited by the USD 300 billion mark, but to look beyond it and achieve USD 500 billion, if not more. Talking about the conference, she noted, “this is an opportunity for introspection; for organisations, national and state governments and industry members to come together to identify domestic and local challenges to find applicable solutions”. She went on to emphasize the importance of organisations like CII and CITI working together with the Government – on projects like SAMARTH – and the industry to bring about a renewed focus towards sustainability in the textile industry.
She further stated that technical textiles will help shape the future of the textile industry in India; “obsolete technology needs to be done away with and we need to embrace the fact that technology does increase productivity”.
Mr. Sachit Jain, Chairman - CII Northern Region and Joint Managing Director, Vardhman Textiles Ltd., spoke on the importance of an industry-wide upscale, virtual integration and improvement in internal processes.
Highlighting the need for a mindset change, Mr. Sanjay K Jain, Chairman - Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), and Managing Director - TT Ltd, expressed the need for the industry to be globally efficient.
Concluding the inaugural session, Mr. Gautam Nair, Chairman - CII National Committee on Textiles and Apparel, and Managing Director - Matrix Clothing Ltd., reiterated the need for cooperation amongst organisations, the government and the industry to project the possibilities of our textiles industry to potential investors.
In his address, Mr. Prashant Agarwal, Joint Managing Director and Co-Founder - Wazir Advisor Ltd., suggested a four-way strategy model be adopted – focussing on manufacturing excellence; product diversification and market drivers; modern cluster approach; training and skill development.
Working towards a USD 300 billion Industry by 2025 was the underlying theme of the 10th Edition of the CII Conference on Textiles and Apparel - Texcon ’18. Texcon ’18 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with DCM Textiles, GHCL, Raymond, Reliance, Tommy Hilfiger and Vardhman was held from 13-14 December, 2018, at The Lalit Hotel. Chief Guest Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon’ble Minister of Textiles - Government of India, released the ‘CII-Wazir Knowledge Paper – Towards USD 300 Billion Industry by 2025’.
