Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries and Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Mr D Jayakumar, Government of Tamil Nadu; and Hon’ble Minister for Tourism Mr Vellamandi N Natarajan, Government of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the 2nd Edition of CII Tamilnadu Travel Mart and Medical Value Travel Mart 2019 exhibition here in Chennai today at the Chennai Trade Centre.
In his special address, Mr D Jayakumar, Honourable Minister for Fisheries, Personnel & Administrative reforms, Government of Tamil Nadu, said “Tamil Nadu stands first in investment potential; number of factories; number of skilled manpower and people employed. In the area of education and healthcare, the State stands in second position. In FDI inflows into India, the State contributes 7.7% and in exports it is around 10%. Tamil Nadu ranks first in India in the number of foreign and domestic tourists arrivals and Tamil Nadu is home for five UNESCO world heritage sites in India, highest among all the States. Tamil Nadu has all the ingredients to provide travellers world class experience in the areas of religious, leisure, beach, fine arts, medical tourism added Mr D Jayakumar.
Speaking on the Occasion, Mr Vellamandi N Natarajan, Minister for Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu, said “Tourism is seen as an engine of development and a catalyst to economic prosperity of a country. Tamil Nadu is the country’s top destination for domestic tourists for the fifth consecutive year. Of the total number of medical tourists to India, Tamil Nadu Attracts 40% of the tourists. To sustain the inflow of Tourist to the state and to create more awareness of the unseen destination and better infrastructure towards Tourism, the state government has taken various initiatives and the government is investing for the development of basic infrastructure facilities at tourist destinations for the benefit of tourists visiting Tamil Nadu.
The 3-day exhibition starting from 20-22 September 2019 will showcase the potential of the Tamil Nadu Tourism and make Tamil Nadu as a preferred medical tourism destination of the world. The Tamil Nadu Travel Mart 2019 is jointly organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Tamil Nadu Travel Mart Society. Tamil Nadu Travel Mart is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Mr Apurva Varma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department, Government of Tamil Nadu; Mr Sanjay Shrivats, Regional Director (SR), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Mr T Udhayachandran, IAS, Commissioner, Department of Archaeology, Government of Tamil Nadu, Ms V Amudhavalli, IAS, Director of Tourism & Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development (TTDC) addressed the Inaugural Session, followed by Cultural show.
The exhibition is scheduled from 20-22 September which would have more than 150 exhibitors showcasing the Tourism business opportunities in the state of Tamil Nadu. 1000 International and domestic buyers are expected to participate in the expo. The Visitors will be offered specially arranged tours to experience the culture and culinary styles of the Chera, Chola, Pandya and Pallava kingdom of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Medical Value Travel Mart 2019 is organised in association with the Health Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. The event will reiterate the importance of Tamil Nadu in the medical value travel sector. Hospitals, Super Speciality centres, Health and wellness centres, Insurance Companies, Medical tourism promoter, Central and state health departments will showcase the world-class medical infrastructure, cutting edge technology available in the state of Tamil Nadu
Mr S Chandramohan, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu said, “Tamil Nadu is the country’s top destination for domestic tourists and the State has evolved and continued to be a land of lively culture and literature making it a destination of choice among the travel fraternity across the globe.
Dr S Chandrakumar, Convenor, CII Tamil Nadu Medical Taskforce said, “Tamil Nadu has been one of the most favoured destinations for Medical tourism in India. The State attracts about 40-50% of medical tourist arrivals in the country, he added.
