Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to strengthen private sector engagement, jointly introduce focused interventions improve for the development of Cooperatives and Community Collectives for economic growth in the country. The MoU was signed by Dr Umakant Dash, Director, IRMA and Mr. Babu Khan, Executive Director, CII.
Under the partnership, IRMA and CII will together identify and prioritize key issues and accordingly work closely with all stakeholders including Policy Makers, Industry, Cooperatives and Communities at the State as well as at the National level. The collaboration is set within the larger vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and is driven by the current Government motto (‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’, ‘Sab Ka Saath Sabka Vikas’, ‘Local Goes Global’) and efforts made to boost the cooperative movement in the country, as well as the Sustainable Development Goal ‘Leaving No One Behind’.
Both the institutions are of the firm belief that rural-urban re-balance and mainstreaming rural economy is critical for the country’s economic growth and overall development. Going forward, partnerships for community-centric and localized development will become the prescribed paradigm for economic growth and development. Creating geographically distributed, localized equitable models of economic development will be key for country’s overall growth.
IRMA and CII will collectively map the needs of each programme or intervention, as well as available and relevant resources for carrying it out. Basis this in-depth assessment, the two organizations will provide technical guidance to develop project plans and implement the same to achieve results for development of cooperatives and community centric models for localized economic growth.

Additionally, since IRMA has a long and storied history of working towards building and nurturing the cooperative movement in India, it remains committed to playing a leading role in advocating for and advancing the cooperative agenda for an equitable and inclusive society. With its continuing commitments, IRMA intends to work as a nodal academic institution for taking forward the cooperative movement in India. As we celebrate the Birth Centenary of IRMA’s Founder and the progenitor of the White Revolution in India, Dr. Verghese Kurien, we look forward to collaborating with CII in furthering this agenda and strengthening our efforts in this direction.”
