Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised its third leg of the School Sports Forum – Making Sports an Integral Part of School Education in Meghalaya #MakingIndiaPlay in Shillong, Meghalaya on 25th September 2019.
The main objective of the conference was to harness the local potential, explore new ideas and discuss the most suitable course of action towards making sports an integral part of education in the region.
Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, Shri Vincent H Pala, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha (Shillong) inaugurated the programme.
While delivering the inaugural address Mr Banteidor Lyngdoh, said, “It is imperative that schools impart physical training, provide access to sports infrastructure after school hours and make the right appointments of physical education teachers to take sports in the right direction.”
Mr Vincent H Pala, quoted saying, “We have received a great response from the Sports Ministry of Meghalaya under the dynamic leadership of our Sports Minister which has resulted in so many success stories in sports for Meghalaya”
Mr Mukherjee, quoted saying, ”We need to look at school sports with the lens of education. Sports should be an integral part of the school curriculum for children. We are looking at creating new opportunities for the children in Srinagar by integrating sports and education towards realising the dream of Samagra Shiksha and the vision of making '300 million children playing 60 minutes daily'. #MakingIndiaPlay”
CII also felicitated Ms Linza Fenny Syiem – Karate, Aiborlang Khongjee - Football and Mr Mehrajuddin Wadoo - Football in recognition of their outstanding excellence in the field of sports and made the state and India proud.
The conclave also witnessed inspirational stories from Bethany Society, Shillong on using sports as a tool for child development and inclusion
The conclave was followed by an exhibition kabaddi match.
