CII-Northern Region Inter Industry Competition on Environment, Health and Safety Management (EHS) was organized today at New Delhi to acknowledge the vision and exemplary commitment of the companies towards environmental responsibility, concern for occupational health and safety of employees and society as a whole.
Highlighting the contribution of EHS, Mr Shikhar Jain, Principal Counsellor, CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development & jury member for the competition said such competitions encourage the development of a continuous improvement culture in organizations and competition brings all the innovative work that organizations are doing in this vital area of operations. He added apart from creating a network of excellence and best practice the best performers will be recognized by CII.
Explaining the importance of EHS, Mr M M Sharma, Sr General Manager- Safety & Health, LANCO POWER LIMITED-O&M & jury member for the competition shared that the operations of industry are coming under close public scrutiny. Industry is beginning to recognize that it needs to take into account the environmental impact of its operations as well as the health and safety of the workers and community in which they operate. He informed that CII Northern Region, as part of its quest to disseminate best practices and encourage the development of a continuous improvement culture in organisations, is now taking yet another significant step forward in the area of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Management by organizing this competition.
Mr Sharma also gave away the trophies to the winning teams GKN Driveline (I) Ltd, Faridabad, won the trophy for the first position ITC Limited, Packaging & Printing Unit, Haridwar emerged as the 1st Runner-up followed by DENSO India Ltd, Greater Noida as the 2nd Runner-up. Consolation prizes were bagged by SUBROS Ltd, Manesar, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Rudrapur & Alstom T and D Ltd, Allahabad
11 EHS teams from 9 organisations with strong commitments towards Environment, Health & Safety Management participated including Alstom T and D, CLAAS India , DENSO India, Escorts, GKN Driveline, India Yamaha Motor, ITC, Mahindra & Mahindra, SUBROS team participated in the competition and gave presentations.
The programme was also attended by delegates from C&S electric, Eastman Cast Forge Ltd, Tupperware India Pvt & Sandarbh Foods (DS Group) to get inputs and better understanding of best practices on EHS. Over 60 participants comprising Environment, Health and Safety experts from Industry attended the competition.
