Dr Yves Bolduc, Minister of Health and Social Services, Government of Québec along with his official and business delegation was in Mumbai to address an Industry interactive meet organized jointly by CII and Quebec Government Office, Mumbai. In his address, Dr Bolduc spoke about stimulating Quebec's economic and social development through an increased involvement of its northern sector - Plan Nord. He stated that over the next 25 years, Quebec would be the epicenter of a vast sustainable development projects in the areas of Energy, Mining, Forestry, Bio-foods, Tourism and Wild Life. He also mentioned that in the coming years out of the 80 billion Canadian dollar year marked for the Plan Nord project, 47 billion dollars will go to renewable and 33 billion dollars will be earmarked for mining operations and infrastructure construction.
Dr Bolduc invited Indian businessmen to come and explore the vast opportunities lying in this developing country.
Mr Suresh H Shetty, Minister of Public Health, Family Welfare & Protocol, Government of Maharashtra spoke about the Indian Government's priority to fight against life style diseases such as hypertension and Cancer. He assured that the Government is setting up six hospitals in each division to give cancer treatment to the poorest of poor people. He spoke about plan to float a tender of procuring 970 ambulances. Government of Maharashtra and Government of Quebec is trying to explore opportunities for collaboration and one of them is the signing of the Joint Declaration on Cooperation in Health and Social Services in telemedicine. The session Chaired by Dr Vivek Desai, Chairman, CII Healthcare Sub Committee & Managing Director, Hosmac India Pvt Ltd, emphasized on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) models as the driving factors for the growth of healthcare sector between the two countries.
