Mizoram

Scenically enchanting, climatically moderate throughout the year and socially peacefully… That is how Mizoram is described by many. A sandwich between Bangladesh and Myanmar, and neighbouring Assam, Tripura and Manipur, Mizoram’s geographical advantages, especially as a potential route for trade with the South East Asian countries, are enormous. It is rich in agriculture and agro-based products, horticulture, floriculture. Food processing, handloom & handicraft, etc. are some of the areas on which the Government has put thrust. Mizoram has a great scope for successful organic farming. Tribals constitute 27 per cent of northeast’s 45.58 million people in Mizoram, a state where the literacy rate is 91.85%, the second highest in India after Kerala. It offers a great deal of workforce especially in ITes. The Mizoram Government is setting up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to encourage economic growth with assistance from the North Eastern Council. The State Government has also adopted a Rs 270-crore New Economic Development Policy to boost the state’s economy and livelihood of the people. The policy aims to lead Mizoram from a subsistence-based economy to a market-based economy. The GSDP at current prices for 2014-15 stood at Rs 11021 crores with a growth rate of 7.07 per cent over previous year.   • Launch of CSR Project in Mizoram
    Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga, MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister, inaugurated a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project for groundwater rejuvenation and water supply enhancement in Darzo Village. Supported by Bharat Forge Limited and facilitated through the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the project will be implemented on 1.93 hectares of land and executed by Young Indians (Yi) Mizoram, the youth wing of CII. This is the first such CSR project undertaken by Young Indians in India.

    Speaking at the launch, Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga thanked Bharat Forge for its continued support to Mizoram’s CSR initiatives and appreciated the efforts of CII Mizoram in attracting CSR investments to the state.

    Dr. A.S. Leena Deshpande, Vice President and Head – CSR, Bharat Forge Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable and impactful CSR initiatives. She noted that the Darzo project is designed to strengthen water conservation and benefit both present and future generations.

    Pu Lalramchhana, Village Council President of Darzo, welcomed the initiative, stating that it would improve water availability for villagers while supporting forest conservation efforts.

    A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between Bharat Forge Limited, CII Foundation, and the Village Council of Darzo, formalizing their partnership for the implementation of the project. The initiative is expected to enhance water security, environmental sustainability, and community development in the village.
  • CII and Government of Mizoram, CSR
    In a significant step towards strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Mizoram, **CII Mizoram State** met with **Mr. TBC Lalvenchhunga**, Chairman, CSR Cell, Government of Mizoram, and Advisor to the Hon'ble Chief Minister (Finance & Planning), on **11 June 2026** to deliberate on enhancing CSR investments and advancing industry-government collaboration.

    During the meeting, CII presented an overview of its CSR initiatives in Mizoram, along with its broader interventions across the North Eastern Region. The discussions centred on developing a structured framework to mobilise CSR resources and align corporate interventions with the State's developmental priorities.
  • Interaction with Secretary, M/o DoNER
    The CII North East Council held a constructive interaction with Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, in New Delhi today.

    The discussion focused on strengthening industry–government partnerships to unlock the immense economic potential of the North Eastern Region. Key areas of deliberation included enhancing investments, promoting startups, strengthening value chains, and accelerating infrastructure-led development.

    The interaction also explored collaborative pathways for fostering inclusive and sustainable growth across the region, with CII reaffirming its commitment to working closely with the Government in driving the North East growth agenda.

CII Mizoram State Level One Day Workshop on IT & GST 2025

On 22nd May 2025, CII Mizoram organized a State Level One Day Workshop on Income Tax Returns (ITR) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the Aijal Club. The event was graced by Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister of State for School Education, Higher & Technical Education, Taxation, and Information & Public Relations, Government of Mizoram, who attended as the Chief Guest. Senior officials from the Taxation Department of the Government of Mizoram were also present. The primary objective of the workshop was to bridge the knowledge gap on taxation and address the emerging challenges faced by the people of Mizoram regarding tax compliance.

Dr. Vanlalthlana emphasized the importance of tax payment, stating that it is a duty and responsibility that should not be viewed as a burden. He expressed his appreciation for CII’s initiative to organize the workshop, highlighting the need for more awareness programs to encourage timely payment of GST and ITR. According to him, such compliance plays a vital role in reducing and preventing corruption in the State, and evading taxes equates to corruption.

Dr. Lalrintluanga Jahau, Member of CII Mizoram and Council Chair, spoke about CII’s ongoing commitment to fostering India’s development by partnering with industry, government, and civil society. He highlighted CII’s history of over 128 years of contributing to national growth through innovation, sustainability initiatives, and corporate citizenship programs. Dr. Jahau expressed hope that the workshop would help bridge the knowledge gap and provide clarity on the critical taxation challenges faced by the State.

Shri Lalthansanga, Additional Commissioner of State Tax, Taxation Department, Government of Mizoram, urged all attendees to support the Taxation Department and the government in their efforts to collect taxes. He reminded the audience that the youth represent the future of Mizoram, and it is essential to set a positive example for them.

This workshop represents a significant step forward in enhancing tax awareness and compliance in Mizoram, reflecting CII’s ongoing dedication to supporting state and national development through knowledge sharing and capacity building.
