Nagaland

Nagaland is a mountainous state in the North East bordering Myanmar. Covered with tropical and subtropical forests, Nagaland is primarily an agro-based state with around 70% of its people earning their livelihood through growing crops such as millets, yams, potatoes, sugarcane, etc. Agriculture and allied sectors in Nagaland have high potential for development of a host of industries including floriculture, horticulture, rubber plantation and allied industries, sericulture, tea cultivation and processing, bamboo shoot preservation, mushroom cultivation and processing, piggery, poultry, etc. Nagaland is also rich in mineral resources such as, high grade limestone, marble and dimensional/decorative stones, coal, nickel-cobalt-chromium bearing ore, and also petroleum & natural Gas. The GSDP at current prices for 2014-15 stood at Rs 18414 crores with a growth rate of 10.85 per cent over previous year. Connectivity remains a challenge – which explains why both the Central and the State Governments have stepped up activities to overhaul the physical infrastructure and transform Nagaland into an industrially developed and commercial vibrant state. Recently, the State Government announced its new industrial policy to attract investments, create a strong culture of entrepreneurship and generate employment. In an attempt to promote and facilitate faster industrialization and urbanization on the foothill areas, Nagaland has adopted the State Nagaland Special Development Zones (NSDZs).     North East Delegation members as the part of Indian Business Delegation to Japan participated in an interaction with the KEIZAI DOYUKAI Japan Association of Corporate Executives in Tokyo, with discussions focused on deepening India-Japan economic and business collaboration, on 25 August 2026.
    The interaction highlighted significant opportunities for greater engagement across future technologies, Al, robotics, semiconductors, energy and renewables, green hydrogen, critical minerals, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

  • Industry-Government Partnership, Naga
    Facilitated by CII, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of the Centre of Logistics Training for Excellence (COLTE) was formally exchanged on 20 April 2026 between the Department of Labour, Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland, the Redington Foundation, and the Logistics Skill Council (LSC). The initiative marks the establishment of the first COLTE in the North Eastern Region, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening the region's skilling ecosystem through industry-driven capacity building in the logistics sector.

    The CII North East Council held a constructive interaction with Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, in New Delhi today.

    The discussion focused on strengthening industry–government partnerships to unlock the immense economic potential of the North Eastern Region. Key areas of deliberation included enhancing investments, promoting startups, strengthening value chains, and accelerating infrastructure-led development.

    The interaction also explored collaborative pathways for fostering inclusive and sustainable growth across the region, with CII reaffirming its commitment to working closely with the Government in driving the North East growth agenda.

  • Launching of CEL Programme
    The CII Centre of Excellence on Employment & Livelihood (CII CEL) launched the Micro Business Excellence Workshop in Dimapur, Nagaland on 10 February 2026, marking Nagaland as the first state in the North-East to implement this programme. The workshop aimed to support current and aspiring entrepreneurs and covered leadership development, sales and business expansion strategies, HR management, understanding financial statements, cash-flow optimisation, and digital transformation.

    At the inaugural session, Mr. Kvulo Lorin, Chairman, Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Limited (NIDC), highlighted Nagaland’s strong potential in natural resources, strategic location, and entrepreneurial capability. The programme saw participation from over 35 entrepreneurs and business aspirants from various districts.

Korea & Nagaland: New Horizons Pioneering Economic and Developmental Partnerships in Northeast India

The first-ever Korea-India Joint CSR-Economic Cooperation Seminar was successfully held in Kohima on May 27, 2025, marking a historic milestone in fostering ties between South Korea and Nagaland. Co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, KOTRA India-Korea Business Cooperation Center, and CII Nagaland, the seminar brought together key stakeholders from both nations to explore partnerships in renewable energy, digital skills development, and smart infrastructure. Led by Sang Woo Lim, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Korean Embassy, the high-level Korean delegation – collectively known as Team Korea – engaged with Nagaland officials and industry leaders, emphasizing Korea’s commitment to Northeast India as a strategic partner. A key highlight was the CSR donation ceremony, where Korean organizations contributed essential medical equipment to local NGOs, underscoring a shared vision for inclusive and sustainable development. Speakers from both countries presented compelling opportunities for collaboration, with a focus on tailoring Korean innovations to Nagaland’s unique cultural and developmental context. The seminar concluded with a networking lunch, setting the stage for long-term cooperation in trade, technology, and community building. This landmark event opens a new chapter of friendship, investment, and shared progress between Korea and Nagaland.
