The Agarwood sector in Tripura is poised to be a prime contributor to the state’s socio-economic growth in the upcoming years. The aggressive campaigns by the State Government during the last few years has catalyzed large-scale investments and created more entrepreneurs in the Agarwood sector in Tripura. These entrepreneurs have become an integral part of the robust value chain in the sector. Tripura has about 15 million trees, mostly on private lands and 70% of these trees are in the North Tripura District. The State Government of Tripura has already notified the Tripura Agarwood Policy 2021 to fulfil the State’s vision for creating Tripura, a hub for Agarwood products in the country and is moving towards creating a sustainable, quality focused and market-driven Agarwood economy. With this objective, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with NTFP Centre of Excellence, Department of Forest, Government of Tripura organized the 4th International Agarwood Conclave and Buyer and Seller Meet 2024” with the theme “Enhance your business with the essence of Tripura Agarwood” on 2nd-4th December 2024 at Agartala, Tripura. The Conclave was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura. In his inaugural address, the Hon'ble Chief Minister mentioned that Agar is the symbol of Tripura's economic growth, and the Agar cultivation has links to the state's tradition and culture. Agar is generating livelihood support to thousands of families and active participation of women in this sector is paving way for their financial independence, he added. Shri Animesh Debbarma, Forest Minister of Tripura in his address as the Guest of Honour spoke about the potential of the agarwood sector in Tripura and requested to scale up the annual buyer-seller meet to reach out to a larger audience globally. Shri J. K. Sinha, IAS Chief Secretary of Tripura mentioned about reducing the compliance burden and easing norms for agar export. Mr R K Samal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forests Force & Principal Secretary, Department of Forests mentioned about the bottlenecks in the current export license and the CITES Permit Process and have suggested modification for ease of doing business. He added that the presence of multiple stakeholders, lack of timelines and absence of real time information act as hinderance for export of agarwood. Mr Prasada Rao Vaddarapu, IFS, Director, NTFP Centre of Excellence, Department of Forests, Government of Tripura gave a detailed presentation on the Agarwood sector in Tripura outlining the strategy for its growth. Mr. Sanjay Garhwal, Member, CII North East Council & Chief Operating Officer, OTPC proposed the Vote of Thanks. The 4th International Agarwood Conclave and Buyer-Seller Meet 2024 had participation from 70 buyers and 38 sellers from across the country.

2. The Conclave was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Manik Saha, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tripura in presence of Shri Animesh Debbarma, Forest Minister of Tripura, Shri J K Sinha, Chief Secretary of Tripura and other dignitaries.
3. The NCE signed three MoUs with global firms for marketing Tripura Agarwood in UAE during the Buyer-Seller Meet.
4. On the day of the conclusion of the Conclave, export license to export 16 Kg of Oil to UAE from Tripura was granted by DGFT.
