CII in partnership with Wheebox & PeopleStrong brings out the annual India Skills Report. which captures the employability of the youth entering the workforce.

Recognizing the need for change in the mindset of the youth and their parents on Vocational Trades, CII started the Regional and National WorkSkills competition in 1987. CII also took membership to the WorldSkills Competition in 2006 and has been supporting NSDC on the same since 2011.

CII also hosts the National Conference and Global Summit on Skill Development every alternate year and brings together speakers both from International & Indian Governments, Domain Experts, Senior Industry Members, Think Tanks, Academicians to discuss and deliberate on various issues on skill development.

On Ground Activities

Over a period of time, CII has been actively working on the ground through its various models to positively impact the marginalized communities and bring value to both the stake holders – Industry and the youth of the nation.

  • Recruit-Train-Deploy (RTD), a unique model designed by CII addresses the need of “Dynamic and demand-based Skill Development” and focuses on matching the demand that exists among the local industrial clusters with the skills of the local youth among the sectors leading to their placement.

  • CII Model Career Centres (MCCs) are industry led facilitation centres linking aspiring youth & job seekers with Job & Career opportunities, thereby bridging the gap between the Jobseekers and the Industry Employers. They provide Career Assessment, Career Counselling, Skills upgradation & Placement / Internship opportunities to the youth and act as a reservoir of skilled talent pool, providing curated talent sourcing services to industry. The CII MCC initiative that started in 2016 with three centres in Gurgaon, Mumbai and Chennai has scaled up to 66 MCCs across the country in a hub and spoke model. The CII MCCs have career counselled over 4.5 lakh youth and provided employment to 1.4 lakh job seekers.

  • CII Multi Skill Institutes are based on a unique multi-corporate, multi-skilling model with an objective to train the local youth in specialized trades and help them get gainful employment or become self-employed. CII had set up the 1st Multi Skill Institute in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2006. Thereafter 5 Multi Skill Institutes have been established in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Dharamshala and Gorakhpur.

  • CII has also partnered with The Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) Switzerland to impart high quality Swiss certified hospitality vocational training. Apart from hospitality, additional courses on healthcare, logistics and banking and financial services are also being offered to the youth.

  • CII is a pioneer and a leading Skill Assessment Body which provides high quality industry-based assessment. CII is the First third Party Assessment body under MES since 2007 & First assessment body certified by Quality Council of India (QCI). CII continues to work with various Sector Skill Councils and other private organizations to ensure the certification of quality skilled manpower. CII has conducted more than 11 lac assessments under various Govt Schemes, with more than 2127 Centre Inspections through more than 2100 Industry qualified Assessors

  • CII has been advocating and facilitating international mobility of Skilled Indian workforce. Under the prestigious Indo-Japan Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), CII along with its consortium partner Nihon Edutech Pvt Ltd has sent 121 candidates to Japan to work majorly in automotive sector. CII is also now focusing on additional trades under which skilled workforce can be sent abroad.

  • While leveraging its deep industry presence and aggregating the job demand from industry, CII also conducts employment led skill training for youth under Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of various corporates.

  • CII is also working to aggregate International workforce requirements across countries. Dialogues have started with Russia, select countries from European Union (Finland, Denmark), Africa (Zambia, South Africa) and Middle East (UAE, Kuwait, Qatar).

  • Post Covid lockdown, CII has embraced digital interventions wholeheartedly and routinely organizes webinars, training workshops and other events on its HIVE and GEKO digital platforms.

CII believes that Industry competitiveness can be achieved only through the supply of skilled workforce as a critical success factor and also create social impact.
