Purbo Bharat’s Big Leap: CII Summit 2025 to Redefine Creative Economy

CII’s Purbo Bharat Big Picture Summit 2025 unveils a bold roadmap to transform Eastern India's creative economy, with industry stalwarts and policymakers in attendance.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is set to host the much-anticipated Purbo Bharat Big Picture Summit 2025, (March 22) uniting key stakeholders from the media and entertainment industry to chart a transformative course for the creative economy of Eastern and North-Eastern India. This summit will act as a catalyst for industry growth, cross-sector collaboration, and innovative strategies aimed at reshaping the region’s creative landscape.

A key highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the CII Media & Entertainment Sector Report 2025 titled ‘A New Vision For Creative Economy’, offering a deep dive into the opportunities and challenges of the creative economy. The report explores the impact of digital transformation, the need for robust infrastructure, and policy interventions to drive the development of cinema, music, performing arts, and digital content industries. It also underscores the importance of sustainable development while preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Honouring Legends, Inspiring the Future

The summit will commence with its inaugural session, "Carrying Forward the Learnings from Legends: Insights for Young Talents," focusing on the lasting impact of Bengali cinema and its continued inspiration for young filmmakers. The session will highlight how the storytelling legacy of legends continues to shape emerging narratives in an increasingly interconnected industry.

A significant highlight of the summit will be the plenary session, "Timeless Treasures: Celebrating the Centenary of the Legends of Indian Cinema." This session will pay tribute to cinematic icons such as Raj Kapoor, Tapan Sinha, Guru Dutt, Salil Chaudhury, and Ritwik Ghatak. The presence of their family members, who will receive commemorative mementos, will reinforce the enduring legacy of these film pioneers in both Indian and global cinema.

Adding to the summit’s prestige, West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose will deliver a special address, reaffirming the state’s commitment to supporting the creative industry and highlighting the role of institutional support in fostering artistic excellence.

Spotlight on Northeast: A Rising Content Hub

With North-Eastern India emerging as a prominent centre for content creation, the "Spotlight on Northeast" plenary session will explore its growing influence. Known for its breathtaking landscapes, unique folklore, and vibrant cultural traditions, the region is becoming a sought-after location for filmmakers and digital creators.

This session will showcase innovative projects and success stories, demonstrating how North-East India is leveraging its artistic strengths to create a thriving creative economy.

The Concert Economy & Monetising Content in Purbo Bharat

Another major session, "Going Beyond Music: Building the Concert Economy in Purbo Bharat," will examine the integration of the region’s rich musical heritage with the modern entertainment industry. As live performances, music festivals, and artist collaborations gain momentum, this discussion will focus on expanding opportunities for musicians, organisers, and investors in the concert economy.

Additionally, an in-depth session on "Monetising Content in Purbo Bharat" will explore the challenges and opportunities in content distribution and commercialisation. Experts will discuss sustainable business models, the role of emerging technologies, and infrastructure enhancements necessary to boost regional content across multiple platforms.

A New Vision for Purbo Bharat: AVGC-XR & Theatrical Renaissance

The summit will conclude with a Valedictory Session: "A New Vision for Purbo Bharat – AVGC-XR." This session will summarise key insights from the discussions while outlining strategies to position the region as a major player in the global creative economy.

A major milestone will be the first-ever meeting of the CII National Taskforce on Theatre, marking a crucial step in revitalising theatrical arts across Eastern and North-Eastern India. This initiative aims to support theatre practitioners, create new opportunities, and ensure long-term sustainability of stage performances.
