CII Industrial Intellectual Property Awards were conferred on Fourteen outstanding companies for best portfolios of Patents, Design and Trademarks among Large, Small and Medium Industries and start-ups in the categories of Engineering and Life Sciences in the 4th edition of 'International IPR Conference on IPR with theme of Ease of Doing IP Intensive Business in India, jointly organized by CII, Indian Patent Office and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. Each award carries a memento and a certificate. Awardees were decided by a jury consisting of IPR experts.
During the Award Ceremony, the Hon’ble Mr. Justice S K Kaul, Senior Judge, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi, highlighted the need for enforcement of Intellectual property rights (IPR) in India. He also emphasized upon the importance of awareness amongst the students regarding the intellectual property right in India.
Mr. Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, GoI highlighted the need to recognize the importance of innovation and intellectual property right in India. He also talked about the government initiatives to encourage the IPR in India and increase in numbers of patent examiners i.e. 459 today as compare to 130 earlier in India. He also talked about the amendment made by Government in patent and trademark Rules in India.
He also stated that in 2017, 60,000 IP patents were examined in India. He also revealed that 41 patents were given to start-up last year. However, he emphasized that there is need to do much more in enforcement side.
According to Shri Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Meity, IT is applied in every sector and there are many unanswered questions in each sector. Hence, there is tremendous scope for innovation in the area of IT within these sectors. He also talked about the significance of more young innovators in India.
Mr. R. Saha, Advisor, CII highlighted the process of CII Industrial Intellectual Property Awards.
Mr. Arvind Thakur, Co-Chairman, CII National Committee on Intellectual Property & Vice Chairman and Managing Director, NIIT Technologies talked about the need to understand the role of IP to foster the growth of Indian Industry. He talked about the CII’s role to create awareness about the IPR as well as working closely with Government & industry in this area.
The winner in the category of Start-up (Engineering) for the Best Portfolio of Patents is SigTuple Technologies Private Limited.
The winner in the category of Startup (Engineering) for the Best Portfolio of Designs and Trademarks is RoadGods AutoGear Private Limited.
1. The Startup (Life science) for the Best Portfolio of Trademarks has conferred to Prantae Solutions Private Limited.
2. The winner in the category of Small Industry (engineering) for the Best Portfolio of Patents and Trademarks is SVP Laser Tech Pvt Ltd.
3. The winner in the category of Small Industry (life Science) for the Best Portfolio of Patents is Vyome Bioscience Private Ltd.
4. Ittiam System Pvt Ltd bagged the award in the category of Medium Industry (Engineering) for the Best Portfolio of Patents
5. The winner in the category of Medium Industry (Life science) for the Best Portfolio of Patents is Optimus Drugs Pvt Ltd.
6. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd has conferred the award in the category of Large Industry (Engineering) for the Best Portfolio of Patents
7. The winner in the categories of Large Industry (Engineering) for the Best Portfolio of Trademarks and Designs is Hero Motocorp Ltd
8. Sun pharmaceutical Industries Ltd accorded the award in the category of Large Industry (Life Science) for the Best Portfolio of Patents
9. The winner in the category of Large Industry (Life Science) for the Best Portfolio of Trademarks is Biocon Ltd.
The Award Ceremony was followed by 4th International IPR Conference on IPR with the theme of Ease of doing IP intensive Business in India jointly organized by CII, Indian Patent Office and Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
It was heartening to note that these companies have developed strong IPR portfolios and have shown a positive growth over the period under consideration. Patents owned by some of the companies are being cited frequently by companies’ base in other countries. The companies have their IPR footprints in many countries.
The present-day investment climate in a country is more and more influenced by its prevailing and future intellectual property (IP) ecosystem. IP intensive industries (IPII) are driven and supported by intellectual property rights (IPR) especially patents, standards and licensing of IPR. The conference focuses on various dimensions of intellectual property which are important for enhancing ease of doing business in India. It promotes sharing of experience of various experts in the field of IPR, taxation, judiciary, industries, law firms, IP offices from India and other countries. Participation of High Court Judges would help people to understand the evolving jurisprudence in matters of IPR. The industry representatives would share their experience in keeping pace with other IP intensive industries to gain an edge in the competitive scenario.
The speakers shared their knowledge & experiences through examples and case studies in the area of Intellectual Property and enforcement with over 250 delegates.
