CII Sikkim MSME Conclave 2025 – Empowering MSMEs in Sikkim | 12th February 2025 | Gangtok, Sikkim
Joint Secretary, MSME, Government of India, Praises Sikkim’s Double-Digit GDP Growth and
Expresses Hope for MSME Development in the State with Government Support.
While addressing the 2nd CII Sikkim MSME Conclave in Gangtok, Sikkim, Ms. Mercy Epao, Joint
Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, praised
Sikkim for its impressive double-digit GDP growth rate. She was the Chief Guest at the conclave
organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). She further elaborated that the Government
of India has set targets for the development and support of MSMEs in the country through a variety of
schemes and urged Sikkim to take advantage of these initiatives. She also encouraged entrepreneurs
to register on the UDYOG MITRA portal for better access to all available schemes. Outlining the
challenges faced by the Northeast due to difficult terrain and connectivity issues, she emphasized that
the Government of India has formulated schemes like the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation
Programme (PMEGP) to promote MSMEs.
Smt. Choden Gyatso, Additional Secretary-cum-Director, Department of Commerce and Industries,
Government of Sikkim, highlighted that MSMEs are one of the most important pillars for state building.
She spoke about Sikkim’s MSME Policy, Startup Policy, and Investment Promotion Policy, which are
designed to support MSMEs in the state, urging entrepreneurs to take full advantage of these policies.
She also mentioned that there is a special focus on women entrepreneurship in the state. Under the
dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, Sikkim has a clear roadmap
for MSME development.
Earlier, Mr. Sony Virdi, Chairman, CII Sikkim State Council and Founder, Mount Zion Group of
Schools, welcomed the dignitaries. Smt. Sradha Sharma Rajan, Co-Chairman, CII Sikkim Council and
Managing Director, Skipping Stones Private Limited, proposed the vote of thanks. The conclave,
attended by 150 participants, facilitated discussions on MSME opportunities and their role in Sikkim’s
growth. It concluded with a call to action for entrepreneurs to leverage government and industry
support to build a competitive MSME sector.
