West Bengal has enjoyed a position of pre-eminence and strength in potato production. However, there are a number of challenges resulting in post-harvest losses of crops which happen due to several reasons such as lack of enough cold stores, old technology of storage facilities etc.
This report examines the causes of post-harvest losses of potato and the remedial measures. It identifies three major factors as the causes for this : firstly, the gap in infrastructure for post-harvest handling and storage, if any. Secondly, on regulatory constrains or support requirements if any. And lastly, all other factors found to be of relevance have been clubbed together and studied.
The report was released on 21 October 2016, at the Krishi Unnayan Mela at Burdwan, West Bengal.
