The Confederation of Indian Industry presented a study titled ‘Socio-Economic Impact of Piracy in the Publishing Sector’ to Mr Ashok Thakur, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development on 9 July, 2014 at New Delhi.
The study highlights the economic impact of piracy to the country in publication of books and makes certain policy recommendations to Government of India. It is also brought out that the social impact of piracy includes curbing creativity, intellectual development and research. The impact of piracy on education and learning is also discussed.
This is essential to India’s emergence as a knowledge economy and manifested in the publication of books which carry forward the passion for knowledge creation, dissemination and help in the drive towards innovation.
