The Government has traditionally assumed a dominant share of the responsibility of building India. Indian industry has always been cognizant of its role and responsibilities in the process of rapid growth and inclusive development of the country, and with the advent of the era of economic reforms and liberalization, it has taken up increasing share of the common task. Since 1895, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been a strong partner and key player in the endeavor of nation-building. Through the years, it has worked with the Government to create, channelize and strengthen the growth drivers that would ensure an equitable and inclusive trajectory for India’s development.
As CII commemorates 120 years of partnership, it looks forward to participating in a close coalition of diverse sections of society – Government, industry, civil society and people at large – to build the India of the dreams and aspirations of her citizens. The CII National Conference and Annual Session 2015 was themed ‘Building India: A Shared Responsibility’. The Theme Paper covers the pillars and drivers of economic development and delineates Indian industry's role across the verticals of vision development, inclusive business, gender empowerment, education and skill development, as also in infrastructure, manufacturing, and external economic engagement.
The publication was released against the backdrop of the National Conference & Annual Session 2015 organized by CII on 6-7 April, 2015 at New Delhi.
