Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Development has become increasingly prominent in the Indian corporate scenario because organizations have realized that besides growing their businesses it is also vital to build trustworthy and sustainable relationships with the community at large. To include the bottom of the pyramid, Indian industry have been trying out many sustainable efforts, from creation of livelihoods and income for the population and increasing tax revenue, to innovating different products and services for the low income groups that unleash their consumption capacity. Instead of relentlessly pursuing profit maximizing motives with the expectation that growth will trickle down the pyramid, Indian industry has actually looked around and taken care wholeheartedly, to leverage the capability of the entire population.
To encourage the corporate to take up more and more CSR initiatives and to capture the data and specific information on CSR activities, the Confederation of Indian Industry (Eastern Region) unveiled the maiden edition of the CSR Compendium in 2013. Encouraged by the response of 2013, CII Eastern Region decided to continue with this initiative of showcasing the best practices of CII member companies in the area of CSR and unveiled the second edition of the CSR Compendium.
