The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Grant Thornton (GT) have undertaken a survey of Indian companies’ state-by-state operations in the United States to discern their growing presence.
The CII-GT report, “Indian Roots, American Soil,” seeks to capture a state-by-state breakdown of tangible investments made and jobs created by 100 Indian companies doing business in the United States. The study highlights that New Jersey, California, Texas, Illinois and New York are home to the most Americans directly employed by Indian companies. Further, Texas, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, New York, and New Jersey have the highest foreign direct investment (FDI) from Indian companies.
The report was released by CII at Capitol Hill on 14 July, 2015 during an event that highlighted the contributions of Indian companies to the U.S. economy.
According to the report, 100 Indian companies employ more than 91,000 people across 35 states and the District of Columbia. The total value of tangible investments made by these 100 companies exceeds $15.3 billion.
The CII-GT survey respondents represent diverse sectors including pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, financial services, health care, materials and manufacturing, media and entertainment, tourism and hospitality, engineering and construction, automotive, food and agriculture, energy, and information technology.
