This report highlights the various initiatives undertaken by CII in the field of sports.
The CII National Committee on Sports was constituted to drive the agenda on sports development in the country. Among the various initiatives, the key area identified is the mandating of sports education informal education system with a vision of- making 300 million children play sports 60 minutes daily. Sports can bring together and capture the imagination of people like nothing else. It has also in recent years established itself economic enterprise, generating serious wealth and employment alongside. India, with its large young population and increasing levels of opportunity - and now, with highly successful sporting leagues as standing examples - is at the cusp of a sporting revolution.
The CII National Committee on Sports serves as an enabler in evangelizing sports in the country, by catalyzing forces of both policy-making and private enterprise. It has also identified the following areas as core parts of our action plan to make the vision a reality – 1. Making physical education a mandate in schools curriculum, 2. Changing mindsets towards sports, and 3. Generating investment for sports through CSR. Each of its initiatives is aimed at building synergies and sustainable models to help create a sporting culture, thereby assisting India to develop into a successful sporting nation.
