Electronics manufacturing is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the world and has witnessed significant expansion in recent times. With the accelerating digitization trends, the demand for electronic products has gone up significantly. The sector also holds great significance in global value chains.
India’s electronics sector has also rapidly expanded over the last decade and has received focused attention from the Government in terms of several policies, including the National Electronics Policy 2019, the PLI scheme for IT hardware and Make in India, among others. However, the sector faces several challenges including high dependence on imports for components and parts and low global shares. Given the rapidly changing global geopolitical landscape, this is an opportune time for India to boost electronics manufacturing and cater to the huge demand for electronics products, both domestically and globally.
Given this backdrop, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has brought out the report “Enhancing Competitiveness of India’s Electronics Exports”, which undertakes an analysis of India’s current electronics landscape and identifies India’s high potential exports in the sector (at the HS 6 digit level) that have the ability to achieve global scale. The paper also identifies India’s top export destinations for the identified products and provides detailed recommendations for enhancing the competitiveness of the sector.
