The Indian ports and shipping industry plays a vital role in sustaining growth in the country’s trade and commerce. The State & Central Governments have undertaken various initiatives to strengthen the Port Sector. The Make in India Campaign and Sagarmala Project have given special emphasis for economic development around the ports.
The ambitious projects in the recent years envisages a port-led economy through infrastructure development in ports and integration of ports with Special Economic Zones, Port based Smart Cities, Industrial Parks, Warehouses, Logistics Parks and Transport Corridors. Two of the five industrial corridors are planned in a way to connect the ports in the south adding to the naturally endowed port advantage of the south. The Private and Public ports are working collaboratively towards offering a strategic advantage for the industries.
